Serra del puig nature reserve

Paraje natural de la Serra del Puig

Rising approximately 165 metres above sea level, the Serra del Puig hilltop is the site of the Santuari de la Mare de Déu de la Misericòrdia, also known as the Ermita of Sant Sebastià. The sanctuary was declared a Municipal Nature Reserve in 2016 for the purpose of ensuring its protection and preservation. Here we can find the site of the Iberian settlement of Puig de la Misericordia, and the tour takes us along the Redona de lErmita local trail.

Its surroundings have been improved over the past few years thanks to various workshop schools and craft works. Through working, stone cutting, and gardening modules, these schools have improved the landscape by restoring the walls and elements of traditional rural architecture, setting up outdoor furnishings (benches, tables, information panels, children’s playgrounds, and more), and landscaping the front access area to the hermitage with species native to the Mediterranean.

Furthermore, the City Council of Vinaròs promotes the recreational use of this reserve for hiking, guided and interpretative tours, and various kinds active tourism activities that guarantee the responsible leisure and enjoyment of the area by all visitors.
