Preserving Traditions

The sea offers its fruits in abundance to the Mediterranean enclave of Vinaròs. Thanks to its proximity to the Ebro River Delta, oily fish such as whitebait, eels, and sardines, among others, are caught in its waters using traditional techniques and processes that respect the marine environment and its biodiversity. After finishing a hard day’s work, the fishermen take their catch to the port so that it can be preserved by hand using exquisite oils and vinegars, resulting in high-quality canned and salted fish that will delight your palate.

This tour will help you get to know a bit more about the natural environment where the oily fish frolic, as well as the process for making delicious preserved fish, not to mention your chance to enjoy some of the dishes from restaurants that are part of “Saborea Vinaròs” (Savour Vinaròs). If you want to take a piece of this experience home with you, we suggest that you visit the Central Market and check out the large variety of gourmet shops that offer a vast array of oily fish and other products that you can enjoy whenever and wherever you want. Be sure not to miss the city’s bakeries, where you will find a large variety of sweet and savoury specialities. For the cherry on the top, the Puig de la Misericordia (prized for its history and sweeping overlooks) will be waiting for you so you can watch the sun set slowly over the horizon together with your loved one.
