On 16 July, after holding mass in the Vinaròs marketplace, the traditional sailors procession set off in honour of the Virgin of Carmel, the patron saint of sailors. During the procession, the Virgin embarks on one of the municipality’s fishing boats so that the rest of the ships may pass before her, paying tribute to the patron saint. Upon returning to port, the Virgin is hoisted onto the sailors’ shoulders and carried to the parish of Saint Magdalena.
All the boats in the fishing fleet are decorated for this festival while a precious floral offering to the Virgin is organised. The festival Queens and Ladies attend, as well as hundreds of Vinaròs residents and visitors, who wouldn’t miss such a beautiful spectacle for anything.
