As a prelude to autumn, on 29 September, the city commemorates the granting of the Carta Pobla, or Town Charter, to the city of Vinaròs. On this date in the year 1241 the mayor of Peñíscola, Gil de Atrocillo, on behalf of King James I of Aragon, granted the Town Charter to Grinyó de Ballester so that he could establish a village there, near where the municipality is established today. To celebrate this anniversary, multiple cultural activities are organised every year, such as concerts, folk dances, talks, exhibitions, plays, or guided tours to reveal the city’s historical heritage.
